James Meyer

James Clinton Meyer, the son of Leroy and Pearl (Streit) Meyer, was born on May 27, 1946.  At the age of 72, on October 21, 2018 James passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.
 
James attended Union country school for several years before continuing at Bern School.
He then attended U.S Trade School in Kansas City for diesel engine repair.
 
James served in the Vietnam War before returning to Bern. On May 16, 1970, he was married to Jean Metzger of Elgin, IA. Three children were born to this union.
 
James and Jean gave their lives to the Lord and were baptized in the Apostolic Christian Church at Bern, KS in 1974.
 
He worked at Todd Tractor Co. in Seneca for a number of years before moving to Sabetha in 1977.  He continued to work for Todd Tractor in Sabetha until 1986, when he started working at the Apostolic Christian Nursing Home part-time in the Maintenance Department. He also began James Meyer Repair at home. In 2001, he retired from the Nursing Home and worked full-time at home with James Meyer Repair.

James had a passion for flying, which he experienced as a young man. He laid aside his hobby to raise his family.  In 2011 he was able to co-purchase a Piper Cherokee plane and resume flying.  He delighted in taking others flying, as well as fixing anything broken, helping his grandchildren with their many projects and spending time with them.
 
James was preceded in death by his parents and in 2005, his wife Jean.
On November 30, 2008, he was married to Karol Banwart of West Bend, IA.
 
He is survived by his wife, Karol, and three children, Alan and Colleen (Hartter) Meyer of Sabetha, Larry and Jill (Dotterer) Meyer of Bern and Dayra and Terry Menold of Hiawatha.
He will be greatly missed by his 14 grandchildren;  Benjamin, Grant, Matthew, Olivia and Sophia Meyer;  Kyle, Trenton, Brenna and Kayla Meyer;  Norea, Madison, Lucas, Lyndsey and Bristol Menold.
Also surviving are his siblings, Leroy Meyer, Rowena Kaster, K'lynne Gugelman, Earl Meyer and Keith Meyer, all of Bern, and Virgil Meyer of Sabetha.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bern Apostolic Christian Church. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 p.m at Popkess Mortuary, and on Thursday, October 25 from 9:30-10:30 a.m at the Bern Apostolic Christian Church, prior to the funeral.  Interment will be in the Bern Apostolic Church Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be left to the Albany Historical Society, or the Apostolic Christian Home, sent in care of the funeral home, 823 Virginia St., Sabetha, KS 66534.
