Donald Fleagle

Donald L. Fleagle, 71, of Reserve, passed away surrounded by his family, Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Hiawatha Community Hospital where he had been a patient for a couple of weeks.

He was born February 25, 1947, at Junction City, KS, one of seven children of Charles and Leona DeWitt Fleagle from Abeline. His family lived in several towns due to his father working construction, therefore Don attended school in various towns, later working hard to earn his GED. He worked construction before joining the U.S. Army, serving from 1966 until 1968, during the Vietnam War. He served in the Army reserves until 1975 when discharged at the rank of PV2, due to medical reasons.

Donald worked at Wilde Tool Co. in Hiawatha for ten years prior to becoming self employed as a highway contractor for the U.S. Postal Service, from 1980 until retiring in 2017. The Hiawatha World writes at his retirement he delivered bulk mail to towns throughout Brown and Nemaha counties, driving over 2.8 million miles during that time. Towns included: Hiawatha, Bern, Oneida, Fairview, Powhattan, Morrill and Sabetha.

Donald enjoyed camping, yahtzee, bingo, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He married Margaret Blaske at Hiawatha, December 24, 1977. They moved to Reserve to make their home since 1986. She survives.

Also surviving are his children Jennifer Lock and husband John of White Cloud, KS; Alfred (Fred) and wife Becca Beck of Marlboro, NY; Carol and husband Lane Deters of Centralia; Adam and wife Wendy Fleagle of Seneca, KS; sister Julia Swain of Elizabeth City, NC; brothers Robert Fleagle, Charles Fleagle both of Hiawatha, KS; 7 grandchildren; Andrew Beck, Christopher Beck, Calie Deters, Charli Fleagle, Gabby Lock, Avrey Deters, and Hunter Fleagle; and a great-grandson Walker Beck.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Peggy Schoenfelder, Sandra Shafer, and Betty Jo Berry.

Funeral Services are planned for 11 a.m., Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday. Military honors will be conducted by the Brown County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Inurnment will be at a later date.
