Dorothy “Dot” Marie Buck, age 91, of Basehor, KS and previously of Atchison passed away unexpectedly on Thursday Oct. 25, 2018 at her home. Funeral Mass Service will be 11:00am Monday, Oct. 29th, at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Basehor, burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Atchison, KS. Rosary Service will be at 9:30am followed by the visitation until the Mass Service. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Altar & Rosary Society’s Mission Sewing Group at St. Therese Parish.


Dorothy was born on November 1, 1926 and was the fourth of five children born to Edward & Viola (Krier) Zelfer. She was raised in Atchison where she advanced through the school system, completing High School at the Mount Saint Scholastic Academy, graduating in 1944. Dorothy went on to attend Western Union School and worked in Topeka, Kansas where she met Harold Buck. Harold operated the teletype at Forbes Army Air Corps Base in Topeka, Kansas. Dorothy and Harold were married on Aug. 14, 1946 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atchison. For many years, Dorothy ran the office of Harold’s Chiropractic Practice in Atchison while raising their eight children. After Harold’s death she moved to Kansas City and immersed herself in charity work. She designed and created thousands of Baby Bibs & Tote Bags for the Altar and Rosary Society’s Mission Sewing Group with St. Therese Parrish, working many hours each day for the past 17 years. Dorothy presently was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Basehor. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time outdoors during the Summer, gardening, Amy’s Alpacas, and animals of all kinds. 


Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, and four siblings. Survivors include her eight children; Nancy Streeter of Virginia Beach, VA., Kenneth Buck of Venice, Fl., Katherine Smith (Dewey) of Avon Park, FL., Mary Maynard (Ralph) of Hendersonville, TN., Patricia Buck of Savannah, Mo., Joseph Buck of Wichita, KS., Anthony Buck (Debbie) of Cleveland, MO., Amy Lanter (Rod) of Basehor, KS., 12 grandchildren, 22, great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
