Harry D. Hennigh, Jr., 87, Atchison, Kansas died Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Gran Villas in Atchison.

Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited on Saturday at 9:30 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Church with visitation following until 11:00. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Parish, St. Benedict Catholic School Endowment or Maur Hill Mt. Academy School and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final care has been entrusted. Condolences may be left at www.arensbergpruett.com.

Harry was born December 13, 1930 in Sabetha, Kansas the son of Harry David Hennigh, Sr., and Nora Adams Hennigh. He attended elementary school in Sabetha and graduated from Sabetha High School.

Harry served in the United States Air Force from February 27, 1950 until his honorable discharge on March 7, 1963 with a rank of Staff Sargent.

He and Joan Elaine Gursky were united in marriage on June 28, 1952 in Racine, Wisconsin. The couple made their home in Racine from 1963 until 1966 and while in Racine, Harry served with the Racine Police Department and then the United States Postal Service. They then moved to Atchison, Kansas where Harry served with the Atchison Police Department for eight years. He then was with the Sabetha Police Department for three years and then returned to Atchison to work at the Atchison Hospital in the maintenance department until his retirement.

Harry was a member of St. Benedict Parish. In his free time he enjoyed being a sports spectator and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all of their sporting events.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Joan Hennigh, Atchison, KS; two sons, Michael (Karen) Hennigh, Atchison, KS; Daniel (Robin) Hennigh, Atchison, KS; two daughters, Patty (Dennis) Gardner, Atchison, KS; Kathy (Terry) Chalfant, Brighton,CO; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son Mark Hennigh and four sisters, Norma, Margaret, Bernice and Mildred.
