Ivan " Jerry" Pemberton

Ivan M. “Jerry” Pemberton, 92, a lifelong resident of Winchester, died Monday, November 12, 2018 at the F.W. Huston Senior Living Center.  

He was born September 13, 1926 in Winchester, the son of Marvel Fern Pemberton and was raised by his mother and step-father, Raymond Grayson. “Jerry” was a 1944 graduate of Winchester High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving from November 20, 1944 to July 1, 1946. He then served in the U.S. Army Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Col. in 1979 after 35 years of military service.  “Jerry” attended Officer’s school at Ft. Benning, GA, as well as the Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth.  He owned and operated Jerry’s Auto Service in Winchester from 1948 to 1990.  

He was a member of Winchester United Methodist Church, a charter member of American Legion Post#387 and Forty& Eight of Leavenworth. He was a  former member and Past Master of Winchester Masonic Lodge #84, a 50 year member and Past Master of Easton Masonic Lodge #45, and a 50 year member and Past Worthy Patron of Order of Eastern Star, Byington Chapter, Easton and Lansing.  He was married to Myra Jeanette Glassell on May 10, 1957 in Emporia, she preceded him in death on July 9, 2010. He was also preceded in death by one son, Kile Pemberton and a grandson, Quentin Bertels.  

He is survived by three sons, Kent (Sandy) Pemberton, Kirk Pemberton, Kreg Pemberton, one daughter, Marvel Green, all of Winchester, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services with Masonic Rites will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Winchester-Wise Cemetery. Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. Memorials suggested to F.W. Huston Medical Center in care of Funeral Home, P.O.
