Glenda Thacker
Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton
Topeka, KS

Glenda Irene Thacker, 66, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018, at her home in Topeka, Kansas.

She peacefully passed away with her daughter, Amanda at her side, after many years of stubbornness and only a few weeks knowing cancer had taken over her body.

She was born on June 3, 1952, in Horton, Kansas, the daughter of Glenn and Helen (Bell) Weidman. After graduation from Powhattan high school, she attended Platt College of Commerce in St. Joseph, Missouri where she received a Diploma in the Personal Secretarial Course.

She married James (Jim) Thacker in 1972, they later divorced in 2001. They continued a life of friendship that many did not understand but admired-spending holidays, family birthdays, and special events together with their children and grandchildren. Glenda enjoyed working in food service, she especially liked her positions that gave her authority to run the show, which she did very well. She most recently worked at The Shack in Topeka. Anyone who knew her would not be surprised to know she worked up until she was no longer physically able.

She was formally a member of Bethany United Church Of Christ, where she continued to associate herself with, and would attend as often as she could before moving to Topeka. When she wasn’t working you could find her enjoying a NBA game, particularly Miami Heat, in person or at home with her daughter, Amanda cheering for LeBron’s team next to her. She also enjoyed attending as many Kenny Rogers concerts as she could. When Halloween came around you could find her dressed up in whatever crazy costume her daughter, Natasha came up with. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with ‘her girls’; Natasha, Amanda, and Tesia.

Survivors include two daughters, Natasha (Justin) Gladden of Agency, Missouri, and Amanda Thacker of Topeka, Kansas; two sisters, Beverly Albertson (Wayne) of Robinson, Kansas, and Delores Lochmiller (Len) of San Diego, California, two grandchildren, Tesia Thacker of Kansas City, Missouri, and Logan Gladden of Agency, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her ex husband, Jim Thacker, her parents, Glenn & Helen Weidman, infant son, James Matthew Thacker, and a brother, Georgie Weidman.

Memorial services are planned for Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 1pm with visitation to follow until 3pm at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Glenda Thacker memorial fund and may be sent in care of the mortuary. A special message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
