Raymond K. Fairbanks, 94, of Larkinburg, died Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Midland at Linnwood Nursing Home in Valley Falls.

He was born January 19, 1924 at Onaga, the son of Ira and Carolina Albin Fairbanks.  He graduated from OnagaHigh School in 1942.

Raymond was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served from 1943 to 1946 at Saipan, Okinawa, and with the army occupational force in Japan.  He was a member of the first Honor Flight for veterans sponsored by Jackson Heights.

He was a member of the Larkinburg Christian Church and since 1951, a member of Mayetta Masonic Lodge No. 393, A.F.&A.M.

Raymond retired from Goodyear in Topeka and was a farmer and a stockman.

He married Irene V. Neal on November 6, 1946 in Holton.  She preceded him in death on October 22, 2011.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings.

Survivors include a son, Randy Fairbanks and wife Tammy, Eureka Springs, AR, a daughter, Kristi Springstead and husband Wayne, Holton, a special great nephew, Dan Fairbanks and wife Candy, in Michigan, six grandchildren, Kari Irvin (Patrick, Kurtis Springstead (Rachel), Kadi Atteberry (Mike), Bailey Springstead, Justin Fairbanks (Casie) and Amber Fairbanks, and thirteen great grandchildren, Alex and Kelsea Irvin, Adalease, Lillian and Logan Springstead, Charlotte, Sadie and Kacy Atteberry, Kaitly, Lexi, Piper and Aspen Fairbanks and Jacob Wilson.

Memorial services with Masonic rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 4th at the Larkinburg Christian Church.  Inurnment, with military honors of Raymond, and his wife Irene will follow in the Larkinburg Cemetery.  Family and friends will meet from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3rd at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton.  Memorials are suggested to Jefferson County Friends of Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 1034, Holton, KS 66436.  On-line condolences may be made at chapeloaksfuneralhome.com
