Deane Wilbur Thorson, 92, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at the Horton Community Hospital.

Deane the only child of Ward W. and Senova Tobiason Thorson, was born on August 15, 1926 at their home north of Everest, Kansas. Deane attended Union Dale  rural school, Everest junior high, and the Horton junior and senior high school, graduating in 1944. He entered the U.S. Army in November of 1944 and served until October 1946, at which time he returned and farmed with his father on the farm north of Horton. He served over thirty years as director of dairy cooperatives, and retired from the dairy business in 1987.

He was married on June 12, 1948 to Emily J. Burgert, only daughter of Ernest and Gladys Narbett Burgert. To this union four children were born, Patricia Anne of Topeka, Kansas, Randall Deane of Horton, Kansas, Mark Bradley of Mission, Kansas and Darren Michael of Horton, Kansas. He is also survived by two daughters-in-laws, Connie and Tambra as well as 7 grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann, Blake Edward, Mark Bradley Jr., Katherine Jule, Brent Michael, Cole Dillon and Annika Nicole; 4 great grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren plus 2 more great grandchildren arriving in the spring.

Deane was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church of rural Everest, Kansas where he served on the church council and participated in vocal music for a long period of time. He also was a longtime member of the Horton Lakeview Country Club.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Zion Lutheran Church north of Everest, Kansas where the family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
