Aloha Hinson

Aloha Winona (McFadden) Hinson, 74, of Holton, KS, departed life on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Holton Community Hospital. She was born August 21, 1944 in Riley, KS the daughter of John Buel and Grace Mae (Baker) McFadden.

Aloha graduated from Riley High School in 1962 and attended Kansas State University as a Home Economics major in education and later Washburn University. During college, she worked as a night waitress at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Restaurant. There she met her husband, Larry E. Hinson.

In September of 1965, Aloha was united in marriage to Larry Eugene Hinson at the Wabaunsee Beecher, Bible and Rifle Church in Wabaunsee, KS. They celebrated over 53 years of marriage.

She was a homemaker, who loved cooking, sewing, gardening and canning. She also enjoyed playing the piano and shared her gift of music with her children. Aloha also was involved as an assistant troop leader for the Brownies and Girl Scouts during her daughter’s early grade school years with Dorothy Gibeson as Holton.

Aloha was dedicated to “The Hinson Tree Farm”, the family’s Christmas tree farm, beginning in 1976. She was involved with the business for 42 years. It has become a family tradition for local people to come visit and enjoy over the years.

She is survived by her husband, Larry E. Hinson, of the home; her son, Larry James Hinson of Kansas City, KS; her daughter, Karen Anne (Hinson) and son-in-law, Scott Colstrom of Lansing, KS; one granddaughter, Megan Colstrom of Austin, TX and 3 brothers, Gerald McFadden of Nampa, ID, Byron McFadden and wife Carol of Hillsboro, KS and Bruce McFadden of Circleville, KS.

 She was preceded in death by her brothers, John Edward McFadden and Richard F. McFadden.

 Funeral Service will be 2:30 Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in the Holton Cemetery.
