Lawrence “Larry” E. Bstandig

Lawrence “Larry” E. Bstandig, 70 of Burchard, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He was born on March 14, 1948 to Lyle and Esther (Kalin) Bstandig in Pawnee City, Nebraska. He grew up on the family farm east of Burchard where he resided until his death.  He was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burchard, Nebraska and was confirmed at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Steinauer, Nebraska.

He attended St. Anthony’s  Parochial School in Steinauer, Nebraska, through the 8th grade.  He then attended Steinauer High School and graduated in 1966 as part of the  last graduating class.  He played basketball  and sang in the choir.

Larry joined the Army Reserves on November 26, 1967.  He attended basic training at Fort Polk, LA and was a 28 year member of Troop C 4th Squadron 302nd Cavalry Unit based in Wymore, Nebraska.  He was discharged on July 15, 1995 holding rank of 1st Sargent E8.  He was a member of the American Legion Table Rock Post 289, where he served as Commander for many years.

Larry worked for G&M Oil in Beatrice for 17 years beginning in 1970.  He then worked for Farmers Coop Supply Company in Pawnee City, Nebraska managing the service station for 4 years. He then began working for Searcey Grain Company in Elk Creek, Nebraska in 1992.  He was a truck driver and a sprayer operator for Searcey Grain, Farmers Coop and Midwest Farmers Coop until the time of his death.

On August 29, 1970 Larry was united in marriage to Dorothy Jones at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.  To this union were born three children, Joseph, Sara and Rebecca.  Larry was very proud of his children,  He coached them in softball, helped them with 4-H, attended all of their ball games and school programs and loved them unconditionally. That same love extended to his grandchildren.

Larry was a life long member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where be was a member of the choir and a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus 10,000 Council.

Larry loved living on his farm and raising his cattle and horses.  He spent countless hours in the saddle and on the tractor.  He treasured time spent with his grandkids working on 4-H projects and attending all of their sporting events.  He was so proud of everything they accomplished.  Larry’s huge circle of family and friends meant the world to him.

He was preceded in death by his son Joseph and his daughter Rebecca, his parents Lyle and Esther Bstandig, sister, Helen Lytle, sister-in-law, Lucille Kramer.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Sean Ramsey of Dawson, son-in-law, Dennis Rowland of Tecumseh, grandkids, Justin, Alex and Hannah Koziol, Mandie Ramsey, Elie Bstandig-Rowland, David and Brett Winters, Jamie Mackey, brother, John (Betty) Bstandig, sisters, Elaine Lytle and Rita (Lonnie) Allen, brother-in-law, Steve Lytle, Many other family and friends.

Funeral Mass10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Steinauer, Nebraska.  Officiating Father Kenneth Hoesing. Rosary 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 4, 2019 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.  Visitation on Monday, February 4, 2019 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Interment St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery. Military honors provided by Table Rock American Legion Brown Hays Post #289.
