Maxine Arnold
Dorr and Clark Funeral Home of Falls City
Sabetha, Ks. Formerly of Verdon, NE

Maxine Arnold passed from this life on February 21, 2019 at the age of 92 and wants you to know that her work here is done. She received a call at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha Kansas; an offer one can’t refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning. This assignment, unlike many in her career as a military wife, comes with security and faithful promise: a reunion with brothers, sisters, family and friends she has not seen in a long time. Missouri-born of Scotch-Irish decent; she was hardened on the outside, but warm and fuzzy in the middle. The fifth and last surviving of six children born to Eugene “Ray” and Emma Gilfillan in Mound City Missouri on September 23, 1926, she grew up living on a small farm in southeast Nebraska.  In early 1945, a handsome “flyboy”, Norman Arnold whisked her off that farm and into a very foreign way of life. A new age pioneer of sorts, she moved from the east coast to the west.  Even taking her young family to Puerto Rico in the early 1950s. But now her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be a homemaker in God’s kingdom: Cooking, cleaning, gardening and reading to her heart’s content. Warm laughter and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious and you won’t gain an ounce! She left no final instructions for us: family was her life; service, her mission here, which has now complete.  Preceded in death by her husband, Norman E. Arnold and daughter Kathy Lynn Arnold in infancy. Now survived by three children: Norman Keith (Fayetteville AR), Roger Eugene and wife Robbie (Bella Vista AR), and Dennis Lee (Sabetha KS); six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  Please turn off the lights on your way out, folks. No more delicious meals, warm out-the-oven pies or frosty pitchers of ice tea. This kitchen is closed.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Church of Christ, Sabetha, KS with Don Fischer officiating. Interment will be at 1:00 PM, Monday at Verdon Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1-3:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home, Falls City.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made to the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha
