Alice Schneider
Wherry Mortuary of Humboldt
Table Rock , NE

Alice Arzona (Crow) Schneider, age 97, of Table Rock was born on January 8, 1922 to I. Leonard and E. Katherine (Gilpin) Crow of Picher, Oklahoma being the last of four children.

Her father was a lead and zinc miner in Picher and they lived there until Alice was about five, moving north of Nebraska City as a farming family. She attended District #1 country school.  Alice met Carl A. Schneider, Jr. at a dance in Nebraska City and the rest became her legacy. The dance continued as they married on December 26, 1939 during a raging snowstorm in Rockport, Missouri.  They returned to live in the Peru area where five children were added to the dance, Gary Lee, Leland Carl, Dennis Michael, John Wayne and Karen Sue.  Alice danced alongside her husband running a restaurant in Peru as well as a farmer’s wife doing chores and keeping the family strong.  Alice started to work at Dan and Debbie Dare Sewing factory in Auburn, NE. She continued to work there as a trainer for all new employees on how to run the many different types of sewing machines on the floor of the shop. She retired after 18 years at which time she moved to Table Rock. The dance did not stop there though as she worked side by side with her husband Carl at the S, M and S Salvage operation in lower part of Table Rock. Meanwhile she was an avid gardener and did sewing for many people in the town of Table Rock. One could always find her humming a song or singing as she continued with the daily routing of life.  She also loved to do crotch work and made over 200 crocheted names for people to give as gifts and a token of her love.  The dance continued as Alice was an active member in the Table Rock United Methodist Church for 40+ years, United Methodist Women, helped with the organization of the Table Rock Senior Center, active in a Home Extension Club, served on the Blue Rivers Agency on Aging Board, active in the Table Rock Community Club as well as the Table Rock Development Board. Alice started a reading program at the Table Rock School organizing many of her friends to go to school to listen to the young children read until the school closed. Thus, many of the children from school knew her as “Grandma Alice”. She was very active in the Table Rock Youth Group as a prayer partner, until recently when it became harder for her to write the letters. Alice enjoyed her dance through life and always saw the good in people, one of her favorite sayings was “if you did not have something good to say, then don’t say it”. Her dancing partner died in April of 1992 but she continued in her Christian life to have a step in her walk for all that saw her as a model to follow.

As her dance continued on, one of her greatest pleasures was the family, she would always tell them to come and enjoy being home. She loved all the grandchildren and great grandchildren in which she would go outside to play with them and fix snacks. She did not know a stranger. Alice suffered a fall in January, which she entered the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital and the earthly dance closed out on February 23, 2019.

Alice is survived by her five children: Gary (MaryEllen) of Canby, OR, Leland (the late Janet) of Table Rock, Dennis (Sandy) Henniker, NH, John (Lynn) of Holyoke, CO, and Karen (Richard) Mezger of Table Rock. She has 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren. Alice also has many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a whole host of friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 79 years Carl, a brother Harley (Callie) Crow, sisters Edna (Kelly) Thorne and Velda (Richard) Cain and a daughter-in-law Janet (Wheeler) Schneider.  Her heavenly dance continues as she entered the gates of Heaven to be reunited with many family members and friends.
