Junias J. Sudbeck, 94, of Seneca, died on Friday, March 22, 2019 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

Junias was born to Franz and Mary A. Olberding Sudbeck on October 6, 1924. He grew up on the family farm northwest of St. Benedict, Kansas and attended Haug Country School for six year before attending St. Mary’s Grade School and graduating from St. Benedict High School in 1941. His father died when Junias was only17 years old.

Junias married Agatha M. Haefele on April 25, 1950 at Sts. Peter and Paul in Seneca. After they were married Junias and Agatha bought a farm one mile south of Seneca on Nightingale Turnpike and continued to farm there until 1993. In 1993, they built a house in Seneca and Junias really never retired as he continued to help his son Dan farm up until he was 90 years old.

He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Society and the Seneca Knights of Columbus Council 1769 in Seneca.

Junias loved farming; but he also enjoyed baseball, watching sports, fishing, hunting, and attending his grandchildren's events. When he was younger, he was offered to play professional baseball but declined to stay home and take care of his mother and their farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Franz on December 20, 1943 and Mary A. on September 16, 1990; and brothers, Linus Sudbeck on August 7, 1990, Francis H. Sudbeck on October 16, 2018 and Virgil Sudbeck on July 4, 2016.

He is survived by wife Agatha of Seneca; a son, Dan (Mary Rose) Sudbeck of Seneca; a daughter, Jo Ann Sudbeck of Hoyt; a sister, Antonia Wassenberg of Seneca; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 and 7 P.M. at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 A.M. on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Junias will be laid to rest in the Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church Cemetery.

Memorials are to be designated later and sent in care of the family.
