Seneca, KS

Charles (Chuck) Kaster, 83, of Seneca died on Saturday, April 13, 2019 with family and friends at his side, Chuck had been in declining health this past year and had been residing at Crestview Nursing & Residential Living where he had received wonderful care and loved many of his caregivers.

Chuck was born on December 31, 1935 in Seneca to Bryan and Ethel Fluent Kaster. Chuck grew up the middle of five brothers. In his early years, while still attending high school, he lived with Henry and Vada Tegtmeier and worked at their farm, Angus Acres. He was active in sports at that time and he would remanence about the football games he played in high school. After graduation, he traveled around the country and held various jobs before enlisting in the Air force. During his six years in the Air Force, he served as an MP in Turkey. He returned to the States and completed his enlistment, being stationed at the base in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Charles married Charlene Rohlmeier on April 9, 1960 at Friedens United Church of Christ west of Bern, the couple celebrated 55 years of marriage, prior to Charlene passing away on June 30, 2015.

The couple moved to their farm in 1961; chuck loved the farm and raised a few hogs and cows. He developed a love for horses and horse racing in the late 1970s and he and his cousin, Ralph Kaster, owned several thoroughbreds that ran on the tracks in the mid-west. Also, in 1970 Charlene and he began what they both felt was a calling to be foster parents. Over the years, they opened their home to approximately 50 children.

Chuck retired from farming in 1985 and became a crop adjuster, a job he enjoyed until computers came in the picture. He retired in 2005.

Chuck was a life time member of Seneca VFW. He loved drinking coffee and beer with friends and enjoyed horses, horse racing and tractor pulls—especially the mini rods. He was often called Chuckles because he could tell some pretty funny stories.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Ryan R. Sextro on July 17, 2012; and a brother, David Kaster.

Chuck is survived by his daughters, Karla (Bob) Sextro of Seneca, Kathy (Joe) Kroeger of Marysville, Kansas and Barb (Jamey) Crockett of Dearborn, Missouri; a son Dillon Kaster of Seneca; brothers, LeRoy (Jane) Kaster of Eldorado, Roger (Rowena) Kaster of Bern, Kenny (Marcel) Kaster of Fall City, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren with one on the way
