Carol Jean Hopkins, 65, of Highland, KS died unexpectedly Sunday evening at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

She was born April 7, 1954 in Wathena, KS to Rex and Betty Jean Hinson Wheeler. Carol grew up in Wathena, KS and attended Wathena Grade School until moving to Denton, KS in 1967. She graduated from Midway High School with the Class of 1972.

Carol married her high school sweetheart and dancing partner for life, Roger Hopkins, August 25, 1973 in the Denton United Methodist Church. Carol was a mother first to her beloved sons, Bob and Bill. She was a homemaker, and worked at various businesses throughout the years in Highland and surrounding areas. Some of these businesses include Tim Miller Implement, Todd Drugs, City of Highland, and Carol’s Hallmark in Hiawatha.

Carol enjoyed antiques, crocheting, knitting, oldie’s music, and old quilts. She and Roger also enjoyed driving through the countryside looking at cattle in the pastures, looking at the pretty country fields, and enjoying the landscape.

She is survived by Roger of the home, two sons; Bob (Sharon) Hopkins of Springfield, VA and Bill Hopkins of White Cloud, KS, grandsons; Samual and Benjamin Hopkins of Springfield, VA, sister; Mabel Ann (Gary) Laipple of Wathena, KS, and three nephews; Matthew, Brett, and Wyatt Laipple.

Carol was preceded in death by her baby dogs; Patty and Toby.

Graveside Services are planned for 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Highland Cemetery. Angie Cluck will officiate.

Friends may call the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland after 10 a.m., Thursday where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. that evening.
