Wanola Buss

Wanola D. Buss, 93, of Holton, KS, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Medicalodges of Jackson County in Holton, KS.

She was born August 28, 1925 south of Circleville, KS, the daughter of Floyd Walter and Ella Marie (Stephenson) Slimmer. She was a lifetime resident of Jackson County and the Holton area, attending Pleasant Hill Grade School and graduating from Circleville High School in 1943. Wanola attended Washburn University in 1944 and received her teaching certificate. She taught 2 years at the following rural schools, Winding Vale and Rockbrook.

She married Dale L. Buss on January 20, 1946 and to this union they shared two sons, Stanley and Larry Buss. They were married for 56 years until Dale passed away on December 10, 2002.

Wanola began working at the Slimaker Dress Factory in Holton in 1953 and went to work at the Denison State Bank in 1965, working full-time and part-time for 35 years as a teller, assistant cashier, and administrative officer. Wanola also belonged to the Holton Hospital Auxiliary.

She was highly involved in the life of the church, whether it was at Granada Church of the Brethren, Larkinburg Christian, Holton Christian Church or Evangel UMC. She was a member of the King’s Daughters Sunday School Class, the Faith Faust Circle of United Methodist Women and past treasurer of Evangel United Methodist Church and sang in the choir.

Wanola will be remembered for being active in nursing home ministry, baking chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter balls and apple pie, and being a neighbor.

Survivors include her sons; Stanley and & wife Missie Buss of Louisburg, KS, Larry & wife Jeannie of Holton, KS; sister, June Jepson of Soldier, KS; brothers, Bill & wife Shirley Slimmer of Topeka, KS, Gary & Barbara Slimmer of Topeka, KS; grandchildren, Bryn (Corey) Stout, Jeremy (Kelly) Buss, Joshua (Hayley) Buss, David (Wendi) Buss, Tim (Megan) Buss; 14 great-grandchildren.

Wanola was preceded in death by her husband Dale and granddaughter Andrea Buss in 1982.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton, KS with a visitation at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service. Burial will follow to the Circleville Cemetery.
