Stanley L. McCauley, 92, of Highland. passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, July 1, 2019, at Hiawatha Community Hospital. He had been a resident of Two Timbers in Highland for five years.

Stanley was born at Hiawatha, the only child of L.E. “Mac” and Emma Sophia Ebeling McCauley and was a lifelong resident of Doniphan County. He grew up near Leona where he attended schools, prior to graduating from Highland High School. Stanley enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, discharged in August 1946, at the rank of Y3c. He returned to the Leona area where he farmed and raised livestock with his father while attemding Highland Community Junior College. Stanley enjoyed farming with his sons who still farm today. Stanley loved to farm and continued to help wherever he was needed after retirement.

Stanley was ‘born and raised’ in the Bellevue United Methodist Church, north of Leona, and held various offices in the Church through the years. He also served as Sunday School superintendant for many years. Stanley loved the outdoors, fishing the ‘round hole’ on the farm, going to Minnesota with family or friends though the years, and just spending time with his family. He had been very active in the community by serving on various boards including the Robinson Farmer Union Co-op, and the Wolf River Watershed Board. He was a member of the Kansas Livestock Assn. for over 50 years. He also served on the Kansas Soybean Commission, and was an Asgrow Seed dealer for over 20 years.

He married Ruth Ann Jeffers, June 12, 1948, at the Presbyterian Church in Highland. They retired from the farm and moved to Highland in 1992. Ruthie died November 15, 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include three sons: Kenneth (Mary) of White Cloud, William (Terri) of Hiawatha, Robert (Jo Ann) of Leona; 6 grandchildren: Traci (Mike) Biesemeyer, Brad (Danyelle) McCauley, Kristin (Lincoln) Hillyer, Kimberly (Josh) Bechtold, DeAnn (Jeremiah) Harring, Kole (Whitney) McCauley, and 14 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Stanley’s life is planned for 10 a.m. Friday, July 5, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland. Tony French will officiate. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, north of Leona.

Friends may call after 12 noon Thursday, where the family will meet with friends from 4 until 6 that afternoon.
