Mary Mueting
Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca
Seneca, KS

On Friday, August 23, 2019, Mary H. Mueting, loving mother of 14 children, grandmother of 30 and great-grandmother of 44 children, passed away at the age of 96.

Mary was born on July 6, 1923 on a farm northeast of Frankfort, KS to Fred and Otillia (Engelken) Kuckelman. She attended grade schools in Baileyville and St. Benedict, KS. Mary graduated from Baileyville High School in May 1941. On July 28, 1943 she married Lawrence A. Mueting at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Baileyville, KS. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1994 after 50 years of marriage. They spent many years farming and raising livestock before retiring in 1989 to the home they built in Seneca, KS. They raised four sons and eight daughters on the Mueting home farm south of Seneca.

Before her marriage, Mary worked at an NYA center in Marysville, KS and the AAA office in Seneca. Mary was a farmer’s wife and stay-at-home mother. She liked to cook, bake and sew for her children and Lawrence. In addition, Mary volunteered for many years at Sts. Peter and Paul Grade School, was a census taker, and a Mitchell Township Republican Committee Woman for almost 50 years.

Mary was deeply loving and passionate about her family. Even though she had over 100 people in her immediate family, she always knew what every family member was involved in, their birthdays as well as their favorite meals and desserts. She loved to quilt, completing over 120 quilts for children’s and grandchildren’s wedding gifts as well as baby quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition, each grandchild received a comforter in honor of their high school graduation. Mary was known for her quick wit, infectious smile and her kind and compassionate spirit.

Mary is survived by her eight daughters: Linda (Ron) Chase of Missoula, MT, Karol (Bob) Maasen of Moses Lake, WA, Jackie (Russ) Clark of El Dorado, KS, Nancy (Rich) Hughes of Overland Park, KS, Cathy (Steve) Kramer of Corning, KS, Mary (Elwyn) Heinen of Hughson, CA, Joyce (Bob) Boden of Seneca and Michele (Jim) Lohmann of Seneca; four sons: Alan (Janet) Mueting of Seneca, Jerry (Rose) Mueting of Seneca, Tim (Carla) Mueting of Normal, IL and Terry (Sheri) Mueting of Corning; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters Rozella Ronnebaum and Kay Gravenstein; and brother Albert Kuckelman.

Mary was preceded in death by an infant son, Galen, October 16, 1945 and infant daughter, Ann, on September 10, 1958; sisters Lucille Preston and LeNore Stumpf; brothers Paul, Mark, John, Fred and Danny.

Rosaries will be prayed on Monday, August 26 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Lauer Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Music will be provided by Katelyn Lohmann and Dennis Niehues. Lector for the service will be Michael Hughes and Danny Mueting will serve as Eucharistic Minister.

Burial will be in the church cemetery following the Mass.
