Travis Whetstine

Travis Whetstine, 39, of St. Joseph, formerly of Wathena, died unexpectedly October 23, 2019, in St. Joseph.

Travis Scott Whetstine was born in St. Joseph, February 5, 1980, the son of William Brian Whetstine and Theresa Ann Rhyne Hessemyer and had lived all of his life in the Wathena/St. Joseph area. He grew up in Wathena, attended school there. Travis worked hard to obtain his GED later. Travis spent a number of years as a laborer for a railroad repair division, based out of St. Joseph. The last few years he was working for BMS Warehouses.

Travis was a Christian, and re-affirmed his faith by being baptized October 20, 2018. He loved his family, the Bible, and activities associated with the outdoors like fishing and mushroom hunting, and spending time with his kids.

Survivors include his wife Misty Unique Whetstine of Stewartsville, MO, children Morgann Laraine of Stewartsville, Tristin Scott of St. Joseph, Trenton Lee, also of Stewartsville; mother Theresa Ann Hessemyer of Troy, father William Brian Whetstine of Troy, brother William Patrick Rhyne of Kansas City, MO, grandmother Doreene Whetstine, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephew and a niece.

Travis was preceded in death by his step-father Gary Lee Hessemyer, sister Misty Ann Whetstine, grandfather Bill Whetstine, grandparents Martie and Juanita “Jo” Rhyne.

The family will meet with friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Friday, November 1, at the Community of Christ Church in Fanning. Services will follow visitation at 4 p.m., followed by inurnment at the Fanning Cemetery.
