William “Bill” Frank Taylor

William “Bill” Frank Taylor, 65, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on July 7, 1954, in Omaha, Nebraska to Harvey H. and Phyllis Jean (Albin) Taylor.  He was raised in Omaha where he received all of his schooling.  After graduating high school, Bill enlisted the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California.  He served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on December 8, 1975.  He then moved back to Omaha where he lived with his family in Omaha and attended classes at an art school.  Bill re-enlisted in the Navy on June 11, 1979 and was stationed on the U.S.S Belleau Wood in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He worked as a seamanship specialist and on an infantry gun crew until being honorably discharged on March 18, 1980.  

Bill moved to Humboldt, Nebraska with his mother where they both lived in the Parkview apartments.  When his mother Phyllis became a resident of the nursing home, he would walk faithfully from the park to the nursing home to see his mother. Bill was a quiet and soft-spoken man who enjoyed his family.  He liked watching television, especially Jeopardy and old westerns and followed the Nebraska Cornhuskers.  Bill passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at his residence in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of sixty-five years, six months and eight days.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harvey Michael Taylor and a sister Harriet Merkuris.

Bill is survived by his brothers: Joe and Charlotte “Josie” Taylor of Dawson, Melvin Taylor of Omaha, sister-in-law Betty Taylor of San Antonio, TX; brother-in-law Paul Merkuris of Omaha, 2 nieces, 5 nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2020, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska.

 

Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Omaha with full military honors conducted by the Nebraska Naval Honor Guard and the Benson VFW Post #2503.

Memorials contributions may be given to the family with a later designation.
