Marie J. Sunneberg, 90, of Pawnee City, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Pawnee City Assisted Living facility.  She was born on September 21, 1929 to Michael and Anna B. (Klein) Ullman at home.  

Marie grew up on the family farm near Steinauer, Nebraska.  She attended Saint Anthony’s Catholic School in Steinauer, then attended and graduated from Lewiston Public School in Lewiston, Nebraska. 

On September 25, 1950, Marie married Gerald Sunneberg at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Beatrice, Nebraska.  To this union three sons were born, Gary, Patrick and Mark. 

Marie’s faith was very important to her.  She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church at Summerfield, Kansas, and was active in the Altar Society for many years.

Marie was also a member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary in Pawnee City for many years.

In addition to taking care of her family and home, Marie worked at several jobs over the years, including the sewing factory in Pawnee City, the food stand for Ab Christensen auctions, and cooking at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Summerfield, Kansas.

Marie enjoyed sewing, making many quilts over the years.  She also enjoyed crafts, gardening, flowers, cooking, and trips to the casinos.  Her greatest love was her family.  Many delicious holiday dinners were shared at her kitchen table.  Marie and Gerald were always there to support and help their family.  

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters:  Lillian, Edna, Dorothy, Jeanette, Shirley, and three brothers, Ben, Lyle, and Lester.

Marie is survived by her sons Gary (Cindy) of Beatrice, Nebraska, Patrick (Pam) of Pawnee City, and Mark (Karen) of Pawnee City, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, sister Marjorie L. Dorn of Pawnee City, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Private family graveside service and interment with Father Jim Shaughnessy officiating.  A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
