James "Jim" Jones

James “Jim” M. Jones, 76, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on November 4, 1943 to Montra and Dorothy (Tacha) Jones in Oberlin, Kansas. He was baptized early in his life in the Methodist faith and attended school in Jennings, Kansas.  Jim later graduated from Jennings High School with the class of 1962.  On November 4, 1975, Jim was united in marriage to Janiece Hanna.  The couple lived near Kearney, Nebraska where Jim farmed and worked for Eaton’s Corporation.  While living in Kearney, Jim was a member of the Sons of the American Legion.  After retiring in 2001, Jim and Janiece moved to Humboldt, Nebraska to be closer to family.  While living in Humboldt, Jim enjoyed gardening, spending time on his tractor and attending his grandkids activities, especially ball games and programs.  In his spare time, he helped with the Southeast Nebraska Cancer Garden and the Humboldt Auditorium.  Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved John Deere tractors and visiting with friends, family and neighbors.
 
Jim passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2020 at his home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of seventy-six years, seven months and eleven days. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jay Jones and grandson George “Boomer” Shewey.
 
Jim is survived by his loving wife Janiece Jones of Humboldt; daughters: Jamie Chapman and husband David of Hoxie, KS; Kathy Curfman of Humboldt, Veronica Tomasello and husband Fred of Newton, KS; a brother John Jones and wife Mickie of Hutchison, KS; 9 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
 
A Private Family Graveside Inurnment will be held at the Jennings Cemetery in Jennings, Kansas at a later date.
 
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020, at The Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family with a later designation.
