Wanda Hartshorn

Wanda Joyce (Tupa) Hartshorn, 71, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on July 11, 1949 in Pawnee City, Nebraska to Lovell and Jo Ann (Hill) Tupa.  She and her siblings attended Rosedale and Athens country schools before starting her 4th grade year in Bern, Kansas.  Wanda later graduated from Bern High School with the class of 1967.  Following graduation, Wanda moved to Topeka, Kansas where she worked as a switchboard operator and years later worked for Campbells Soup Company in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  Wanda returned to the Humboldt community over twenty years ago after living and working in Garden City, Kansas.  She worked as a custodian for many years for Humboldt public schools before retiring in 2011.  While living in Humboldt, Wanda was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Harvey-Mann Legion Auxiliary and served as secretary of the Mound (Prospect) Cemetery.
Wanda passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of seventy-one years and six days. She is preceded in death by her father Lovell Tupa, a sister Kathy Tupa and step-father Myron Leech.
Wanda is survived by her husband Del Hartshorn of Humboldt, NE; mother Jo Ann Leech of Humboldt, NE; sisters: Marsha (Francis) Esslinger of Belleville, KS; Barbara (Richard) McCarter of Topeka, KS; Jeri Armstrong of Hiawatha, KS; Sharon (Melvin) Streit of rural Humboldt, NE; a brother Michael Tupa of Junction City, KS;  step-children: Rod (Kelly) Hartshorn of Wichita, KS; Kelly (Sharon) Hartshorn of Utica, NE; Becky Hartshorn of Lincoln, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020, at the Humboldt Cancer Garden in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiating.  Due to Covid 19 restrictions, the family requests those in attendance to please bring their own seating with social distancing in mind or those in attendance can listen from their vehicles to a live broadcast of the service on F.M. radio station 88.7.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at The Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street, in Humboldt, Nebraska.
A Private Family Burial will be held at the Mound (Prospect) Cemetery in rural Humboldt.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Richardson County Cancer Fund.
