Stephen Larry Finger, 73, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on October 27, 1946 in Horton, Kansas the son of Warner and Emma "Pauline" Eames Finger. Steve graduated from Powhattan High School in 1964. After high school he proudly served in the United State Marine Corps from November of 1965 to November of 1968 during the Vietnam Era. He was honorably discharged at the rank of E5 Sergeant. He worked for Hallmark cards, Hammersmith Manufacturing before becoming a rural mail carrier. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 27 years before retiring in 2003. He served on the Horton Volunteer Fire Department for over 27 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a range safety officer. On September 14, 1985 he married Darlene Rita Schmitz at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Finger of the home, Horton, Kansas; three brothers, Richard (Linda) Finger of Lawrence, Kansas, Ron (Rebeca) Finger of Topeka, Kansas and Dave (friend Yvonne) Finger of Horton, Kansas; a sister, Nancy Finger of Topeka, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A private funeral service will be held on Monday, August 3, 2020 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas with burial and military graveside rites to follow at the Horton Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday afternoon at the mortuary. Memorials may be sent to the Steve Finger memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
