LaVelda Britt
Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary, in Horton
Horton , KS

LaVelda Colleen Britt, 83, of Horton, Kansas, left to be with Our Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 6, 2020. She passed peacefully in her own home, next to her husband, Robert.

LaVelda was born to Sylvia Grace (Rodgers) and Moody William Messick, on September 22, 1937, in Marysville, Kansas. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1955. LaVelda met her husband, Robert Eugene Britt, and on October 30, 1960, the two married, also in Marysville. LaVelda spent her early adult years as a homemaker, and later worked for the South Western Bell Telephone Company.

She was a proud member of the Horton Baptist Church, and dedicated much of her time to volunteering at the Tri-County Manor, and delivering for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed painting, crafting, sewing, scrapbooking, collecting dolls, and was an avid mystery and romance book reader. Her greatest joys in life included giving back to her community, visiting with her friends, showing off her family, and sharing her love for Jesus. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother, daughter, wife, sister, and friend. To know her was to love her, and she left this world with so much of it.

LaVelda is survived by her husband, Robert “Corky” Britt of the home; son, Tracy Britt of Everest, Kansas, and his wife, Alisa; daughter, Shelly Curtis, of Topeka, Kansas, and her husband, William; daughter, Deanna Meisenheimer of Hiawatha, Kansas, and her husband, Gary Meisenheimer; brother, Stanley Messick, of Idaho Falls, Idaho and his wife, Jackie; grandchildren, Dane and Kady Curtis, Nicholas and Casey Britt, Nathan Britt, Bethany and Joey Gonzalez, Megan Vega, and Keely and Alex Fink; and one great grand-daughter, Mia Britt.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Horton, Kansas. Burial will be at the Horton Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
