Rex Allen Hamlin, 56, of Holton passed away December 15, 2020, surrounded by his family, at his birth home.

He was born May 23, 1964 in Holton, the son of Robert W. and Marjorie F. (Schmitt) Hamlin.  He graduated from Holton High School in 1982 and had lived in Holton his entire life.  Rex worked over 36 years with the City of Holton as a police and fire dispatcher, was a Holton Firefighter, worked part time at Wal-Mart and enjoyed mowing lawns. On May 14, 1983 he married Debbie Bentley in Holton. Growing up Rex attended Larkinburg Christian Church but later he and his wife and daughter attended First Christian Church in Holton.

He is survived by: his devoted wife, Debbie of the home; his loving daughter, Jennifer Lynn Hamlin of Topeka; his sister, Barbara Huyett (Brent) of Holton; his mother-in-law, Ruby Elizabeth Behrends; his sisters-in law, 3 step siblings, many nieces and nephews, the “greatest” cousins ever and his sidekicks, Soccer and Case.

Rex was preceded in death by: his parents, Robert and Marjorie; his beloved step-mother, Doris (Purcell) Dibbern (who had raised him since he was 9 years old): his step-father, Loren “Pappy” Dibbern and a half-brother, Larry E. Proctor.

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Larkinburg Cemetery.  Rex will lie in state at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton beginning Saturday afternoon, December 19, 2020 through Monday evening until 6:00 p.m. each day.  Memorials are suggested to Holton Fire Department c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
