Ralph Herrera
Rural Hiawatha , KS

Ralph B. Herrera, 64, of rural Hiawatha, died Sunday afternoon, July 22, 2012, at Hiawatha Community Hospital.

He was born August 21, 1947, in Chilton, Wisconsin, the son of the late Manuel and Juanita Borgas Herrera. Ralph grew at up in Buckholts, Texas, where he attended high school. He moved to Hiawatha in 1974 where he raised his family and lived until his death. He worked for Flair Fold for 14 years in Hiawatha.

Ralph had attended St. Ann Catholic Church of Hiawatha. He was involved with the Hiawatha Wrestling Club when his two sons were wrestlers in the 70’s and 80’s. He was also a Boy Scout Troop assistant and later became a troop leader. Ralph earned membership into the tribe of Mic-O-Say high honor. He was a founding member of Northeast Kansa Tractor Pullers. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren at every opportunity.

Ralph was married to Maria Luisa Perez, October 5, 1965, in Cameron, Texas. His wife Maria (Mary) of 47 years survives of the home.


Also surviving are two sons: Ernest Herrera of Hiawatha, Manuel Herrera of Blue Springs, Missouri; three daughters: Virginia (Les) Herrera-Dooley of Hiawatha, Tina (Phillip) Herrera-Harmon of Topeka, Keri (Mike Woods) Herrera of Savannah, Missouri; 4 grandchildren: Joshua Herrera, Juanita (Cori) Herrera, Ethan Wilke, and Bailey Woods. Ralph is also survived by two sisters: Lucy Avila-Herrera of Hiawatha, Lupe (Castrulo) Trevino of Houston, Texas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 Thursday morning, July 26, at St. Ann Catholic Church of Hiawatha. Father Sylvester D’Souza will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. until 5 Wednesday. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. at St. Ann Church, followed by the family visiting with friends.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Ralph Herrera Memorial Fund which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., Hiawatha 66434.
