Lulu "Lu" Korber

Lulu "Lu" Korber, 78, of rural Bern, KS, passed away July 30, 2021.  She was born to Ernest and Gladys (Powell) Mahaffey on the family farm near Alexandria, Nebraska on April 29, 1943.  At an early age, Lu had to help work on the farm with her sister Linda and brother Larry, due to her father's health issues.  Lu attended Country School District #36 for eight years and then graduated from Bruning High School.  After graduation, Lu attended Beautician School in Beatrice, Nebraska in 1961.

She was united in marriage to David Korber on November 24, 1963 at the United Methodist Church in Bruning, Nebraska.  To this union three children were born. Their first son Dean was born Dec. 10, 1964, daughter, Sheila Dec. 25, 1967 and son John, July 4, 1971. After her marriage Lu became a homemaker and worked along side her husband.

Lu enjoyed gardening, crocheting, ceramics, watching her children's school events and traveling the country and the world.  She was a member of the Women's Fellowship at Friedens United Church of Christ, Bern, KS.  Lu was the craft teacher at Bible School.  Lu loved to do crafts of all kinds and trying new ones along way. 

She is survived by her husband David, children, Dean Korber and wife Marsha, daughter Sheila Huls and husband James and John Korber and wife Susan, grandchildren, Megan and Brenden Huls and Kimberly and Joseph Korber all of Bern, KS, sister, Linda Ebbers and nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Lu was preceded in death by her parents, brother Larry Mahaffey and sisters, Lois Ream and Loree Marshmann.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at the Friedens United Church of Christ, rural Bern, KS with Rev. Ron DeVore officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2021  at the Wherry Mortuary in Pawnee City, Nebraska.

Memorials may go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. 

Inurnment will be in the Friedens United Church of Christ, rural Bern, Kansas.
