Donald "Don" Holder

Donald “Don” Wayne Holder, 93, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born in Falls City, Nebraska on November 16, 1927 to Fred W. and Goldie Pearl (Shrauger) Holder.  He attended school at Cupola country school north of Verdon, Nebraska.  On April 25, 1950, Don was united in marriage to Margaret Harms. To this union two sons Rodney and Scott were born.  The couple started their married life farming Northwest of Verdon. 

On July 29,1952, Don was drafted into the U.S. Army and courageously served his country during the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged on April 29, 1954 and received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars for his service to his country.  In May of 1954, Don and Margaret moved from Colorado Springs, Colorado where he had been stationed back to Humboldt, Nebraska to make their home.  Don was a mail carrier for the federal government for many years until retirement.  He was a life-time member of the Harvey-Mann Legion Post #269, life-time member of the VFW #9597 until its closing, served 25 years on the Humboldt Volunteer Fire Department, member of the rural letter carrier, member of the Richardson County Fair & Advisory Boards and long-time member of The Humboldt Christian Church.  

Don passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the age of ninety-three years, eight months, and eighteen days.  He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Rodney, brothers: LeRoy, Dale (Beth) and Robert “Bob” (Delores) Holder, a sister Marcella (Wayne) Bertwell and sister-in-law Luella Withers. 

Don is survived by his son Scott Holder and his wife Nancy of Elkhorn, NE; granddaughters: Kristen Holder of Millard, NE and fiancé Charles Poster of Omaha, NE; and Kayla Holder of Union City, CA and fiancé Mason Jump of Union City, CA; nephew Roger Withers and his wife Glenna of Stella, NE; great-nephews Lee and Lyn Withers of Stella, NE; and many relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021, at The Christian Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating.  Masks and social distancing will be required for those attending service for Don.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at the Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska.

Interment will immediately follow services at the Humboldt Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Harvey-Mann Legion Post #269 and the Nebraska Army Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
