Velma Odessa Church, 93, formerly of Valley Falls and Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at F.W. Huston Sr. Living Center in Winchester.

Velma was born April 29, 1928 in Winchester, the daughter of Roy Frederick and Dessie Stevens Petitt. She was a homemaker and also worked outside the home at Josten’s American Yearbook in Topeka for eight years. She also worked part time for the Kansas Department of Revenue during tax season from 1992 to 2012. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Falls.
Velma married Wayne Alfred Church, Sr. October 11, 1943 at Topeka, he preceded her death May 16, 1980.

She is survived by one son, David (Sharon) Church, Valley Falls, one daughter, Jo Ann (Steve) Adams, Oskaloosa, a son-in-law, Gary Goodin, Muscotah, 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Goodin, two sons, Frederick Church, Wayne Church, Jr., a granddaughter, Sandra Ann Church and a great-grandson, Josh Montgomery.

 A graveside service will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Valley Falls Cemetery. Social distancing and face coverings are encouraged.  Mrs. Church will lie in state at the Funeral Home from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM, Monday, September 6,  2021.
