Esther L. Henthorne, 92, of Perry, died Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. 

She was born December 28, 1928 at Herkimer, KS, the daughter of Adolph “Pat” and Minna Marie Hoffman Minder. Esther was a 1946 graduate of Marysville High School. She worked many years as a switchboard operator and supervisor of forecasting in Customer Service for the Southwestern Bell Company.  She was an active member of the Perry United Methodist Church,  United Methodist Women, Perry Civic Club, the Perry Pride Organization and a Perry Fall Festival planning volunteer. She was an active member of Kansa Prairie Quilter’s club and the Perry UMW Quilters. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and the Perry Squares Square Dance Club. 

 She married Charles William Henthorne on September 27, 1947 at Hastings, NE, he preceded her in death on February 22, 2007.  Survivors include four daughters, Mary (Larry Bettac) Scheetz, Silverton, OR, Cindy (William) Lake, Cheyenne, WY, Brenda (Thomas) Williamson-Mills, Silverton, OR, Stephanie (Scott) Johnson, Manhattan, three sons, Michael (Susan) Henthorne, Philomanth, OR, Robert “Bob” (Mary Ann) Henthorne, Valley Falls, James A. Henthorne, Oskaloosa, 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Henthorne ,two sisters, Irene Coufal and Hilda Minder.

Cremation Care is planned. Private Family Services will be at a later date. Memorials suggested to the Esther Henthorne Memorial to be divided between her favorite charities or to organization of choice and sent in care of Barnett Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 602, Oskaloosa, KS,   66066.
