Jesse H. Hobbs, 96, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Maple Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hiawatha, Kansas.

He was born on April 11, 1925 in Powhattan, Kansas, one of eleven children born to Jesse E. and Katherine Munsey Hobbs. Jesse graduated in 1943 from Willis High School where he met the love of his life, Lucille Earp. Jesse and Lucille were married November 28, 1944 in Hiawatha, Kansas. One month later, Jesse left to serve his country in the Pacific Campaign. He was a paratrooper, serving with the 11th Airborne Division in the Philippines and Japan returning home in October of 1946. After returning stateside Jesse served the rest of his enlistment.

Jess held several jobs, including his own flooring company, before hiring on at the U.S. Post Office in Horton. He retired from the postal service in February of 1985.

Jesse and Lucille were married 64 years before she passed away in 2009. Of this union four children were born. He loved fishing, gardening, his church, and horseshoe pitching. After his retirement he and Lucille traveled to many tournaments.

Jesse was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Horton. He held many offices and was very active in the church. Jesse was instrumental in the planning and helping build the new church. He loved singing the old-time hymns and praising the Lord.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley (Bob) Griffin of Le High Acres, Florida, Debra (Tom) Lowe of Wichita, Kansas and two sons, Floyd (Judy) Hobbs of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Chuck (Gwen) Hobbs of Le Compton, Kansas; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great grandsons and one brother, Larry Hobbs of Naches, Washington.

Jesse was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucille, his parents, nine siblings, two grandsons and one great-grandson. The family will greet friends on Friday, December 10, 2021 from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Horton First Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Rosehill Cemetery in Robinson, Kansas.
