Lola "Maxine" Davies
Formerly of rural Robinson, KS

Lola "Maxine" Davies, 79, of Saint Joseph, MO, was born August 16, 1933, in Robinson, Kansas to Harry and Florence Sommers. She passed away peacefully on August 21st, 2012 at Heartland Medical Center with her family by her side. Maxine married Clyde Davies on December 26th, 1951, in Highland, Kansas at the Presbyterian Church.

Maxine graduated from Highland High School in 1951 and attended Highland College prior to moving to San Diego, CA, where Clyde was stationed in the Navy. During their four years in California, she worked as a bank courier. Upon moving back to Kansas, she and Clyde purchased their farm near Robinson, where they lived for thirty years and she was actively involved in their businesses of raising registered Angus cattle, greyhounds, sheep, crops and their two sons, Kevin Clyde and Scott Alan. Maxine also worked in a variety of roles at their Case farm equipment dealership in Hiawatha, Davies Implement Company.

Maxine enjoyed reading, gardening, writing, playing cards, and being a mother/grandmother. She was a spirit filled, born again Christian who was active in many church groups throughout her life, leading bible studies, prayer groups and winning many souls for the Lord. She was an active 4-H member as a youth and a leader as an adult. Maxine spent many summer days helping young 4-H members with their forestry, entomology and livestock projects. Her leadership was evident every year through the blue ribbons won by the performances of the Zion Zippers and Robinson Meadowlarks club members at County, Regional and State 4-H contests.

Maxine is survived by her husband Clyde Davies of the home; their children: Kevin and Kate Davies; Scott and Tammie Davies; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her longtime canine companion Charlie. Also surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Marilyn Sommers; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cecil and Dorothy Davies; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Rupp Funeral Home, 6054 Pryor Ave, St. Joseph, Missouri at 10:00 AM Friday, August 24th. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday August 23rd at the Rupp Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at the Fanning, KS Cemetery immediately following the funeral.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers to please send memorial contributions in care of Rupp Funeral Home, 6054 Pryor Ave, St. Joseph, Missouri.
