Dorothy L. Thixton
Atchison, KS

Dorothy L. Thixton, 93, of Atchison, KS, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2012 at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Stevens officiating.  Burial of cremains will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials in honor of Mrs. Thixton are suggested to the First Baptist Church or the Atchison Hospital Hospice and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home.  Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Dorothy was born on May 31, 1918 in Atchison, KS the daughter of Cyrus E. Behney, Sr. and Pauline A. (Brandt) Behney.  She attended school in Atchison and graduated from Atchison High School in 1936.  Dorothy was very active in Girl Scouting, PTA, the Church Circle and in Church services. She was a member of the Atchison Historical Society and the First Baptist Church.  Dorothy loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.  

Dorothy married Earl G. Thixton on May 26, 1946. Mr. Thixton preceded her in death on July 22, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Cyrus E. Behney, Jr. and a sister, Ruthanna Lindsey.

Survivors include two daughters, Paula (Bob) Hall, Effingham, KS; Tana (Dennis) Snyder, Highland, KS; two granddaughters, Tiffany Hall, Lenexa, KS; Stephanie Hall, Tulsa, OK and a foreign exchange student she had once hosted, Ellie Claros Silva, Cochambamba , Bolivia.
