Area Firefighters to Conduct Live Fire Training
04/05/2012

Citizens in Atchison may see some smoke and fire along U-S 59 highway a few evenings later on this month, but there should be no worries.

That’s because there will be a live fire training exercise for all area firefighters at six the evenings of April 17th, 18th and 19th in the Fargo Assembly parking lot next to Country Mart at 2002 U-S 59.

Atchison Fire Captain Ted Graf says it’s a tractor-trailer like setup with fires powered by propane, like those in vehicles, dumpsters or grills.

Graf says the exercise is designed to help out the rural firefighters, who usually have day jobs in addition to their fire duties.

He says they don’t expect the fire simulation to put out a great deal of smoke to the surrounding area.

The event is being sponsored by the Atchison Fire Department.
