04/23/2012

A 27 year old Atchison woman is recovering following a car-train accident in Buchanan county Friday evening.

The accident occurred around 5:15 on U-S 59 highway four miles north of Rushville at a passive railroad crossing.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol a 1998 Chevy Venture driven by Stefanie Lindstrom failed to yield to a 2008 Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Mack locomotive headed northbound driven by 61 year old Morven Samuelson.

The train struck the eastbound Lindstrom vehicle in the right rear, causing it to travel off the north side of the roadway coming to rest facing west while the train came to a controlled stop.

Lindstrom was transported by Lifenet Helicopter to the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Saint Joseph with moderate injuries.

 Samuelson was not injured.

The patrol says Lindstrom was wearing her seatbelt.
