Increase in Thefts Reported in Brown County
The Brown County Sheriff’s office is reporting an increase in thefts in the county.
Sheriff John Merchant says with the nicer weather, criminal activity tends to increase.
Merchant says multiple reports have been made on copper wire thefts from irrigation pivots and abandoned farm structures. Also, area farmers have made comments that fuel, old batteries and tools have came up missing.
He says some of these thefts have even occurred in broad daylight.
Merchant is asking county residents to be aware of any suspicious person or vehicle that they encounter and get as much detail as they can safely—including vehicle description, license plate number, number of occupants and a description of the occupants. He says one person happened to have a digital camera and took some very detailed pictures.
Merchant says it’s a proven fact that when citizens work together to pass on information and look out for each others property, crime does decrease because the criminals target areas where they can commit crimes unnoticed.
Your urged to report suspicious activity or persons to the Brown County Sheriff’s office or your local law enforcement agency.
