Horton Spring Clean Set For Saturday
05/02/2012

The City of Horton will get a makeover Saturday, as residents are encouraged to take part in the annual Spring Clean-Up.

Included during the day will be free dumping at the Civic Center grounds, from

7:00 Saturday morning until 1:00 in the afternoon.

Acceptable items that can be taken to that location include furniture, carpet, empty paint cans, plastic, mattresses, wood, cabinets, tables, windows, tubs, sinks and shingles.

At the same time, Jim Spicer will be on site collecting aluminum cans, iron, car batteries and related materials.

Tires will also be accepted, but at a cost. Car tires will be taken for a dollar; semi-tires for four-dollars; large tractor tires for 15-dollars; small tractor tires will be accepted for

seven-fifty, while two-fifty is the cost to dispose of front tires.

Starting at 8:00 Saturday morning, the Brown County Hazardous Waste trailer will be on location until 1:00,. accepting a wide variety of household contaminants, including anti-freeze, herbicides, pesticides, cleaners, paint and paint products, alkaline and Ni-Cad batteries, mercury, and used oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid and gasoline.

Business waste is not allowed.

There are also a number of requirements residents should be aware of prior to taking hazardous waste to the trailer:

EMPTY CONTAINERS WHERE THE PRODUCT IS DRIED OUT MAY BE THROWN AWAY.

CHECK CONTAINERS AND MAKE SURE LIDS ARE TIGHT.

MAKE SURE PRODUCTS ARE LABELED.

PACK WASTES IN STURDY CONTAINERS FOR TRANSPORTATION.

WRAP LEAKING OR DIRTY INDIVIDUAL CONTAINERS IN CLEAN PLASTIC BAGS AND PACK EACH ITEM IN A CONTAINER WITH ABSORBENT MATERIAL, SUCH AS KITTY LITTER.

TRANSPORT THE MATERIALS IN YOUR TRUNK, VEHICLE REAR, OR TRUCK BED.

LEAVES, GRASS CLIPPINGS AND HOUSEHOLD TRASH WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED SATURDAY.

The Spring Clean-Up is sponsored by the City of Horton, and additional questions should be posed to 785-486-2681.
