A goal is realized in the way of a growing program in Jackson County, with Sheriff Tim Morse saying results are already being seen through the “Community Watch” initiative, which he has been wanting to implement for some time(Play Audio :16 seconds)
The alert Morse refers to is a text message, or email, sent to those signed up for the initiative, in order to make the public aware of wanted suspects, or other such matters(Play Audio :34 seconds)
Morse says the objective, along with having more eyes on the look out for the bad guy, is to allow his office to receive concerns, and tips, quickly(Play Audio :20 seconds)
Although similar to the long running, and familiar, “neighborhood watch,” Morse believes this program will be more effective, and, is in no way, intended for residents to take matters into their own hands(Play Audio :24 seconds)
So far, around 500 people have joined the program, and Morse says signing up is simple(Play Audio :23 seconds)
According to Morse, most burglaries occur in the daytime on weekdays, between the hours of 10 in the morning and 2:00 in the afternoon, which reduces the chance of being caught by a homeowner.
Because of that, and in partnership with the watch program, the Sheriff's Department has stepped up the rural patrol enforcement during those hours.
