Benedictine College has announced that the 2012 Distinguished Educator of the Year is Dr. Karen Minter, professor in the Music Department.
The award, which is the highest honor a faculty member at the college can receive, has been given for more than 30 years.
Minter was overwhelmingly nominated for the distinction by Benedictine College students, faculty and staff.
Minter, who has been battling cancer, could not attend the ceremony, so the award was accepted on her behalf by her son, Dr. James Garner.
An emotional Garner agreed with others, saying that dedication to her profession is one of her strong suits.
