Hasenkamp of Centralia Places 3rd at Track & Field Nationals for Highland

Highland Community College men and women's track and field sqauds sent two athletes each to compete in the NJCAA National Championships in Leveland, Texas. The three-day action in Texas as wrapped up and the Scotties notching three top 10 finishes, including one top three finish, while they tallied a total of five top 20 finishes.

The best performance came at the hands of a local area athlete from Centralia; as freshman, Rebecca Hasenkamp took home third place in the javelin throw on the third and final day of the NJCAA Track and Field National Championships. Hasenkamp with a toss of 116ft 7in, locked up a 3rd place finish for herself in the National Championships.

Hasenkamp's teammate, freshman, Mary Kate Taylor  (Chillicothe, MO) competed in both the 10,000-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase. On day one Taylor took home 8th place in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 41:55.96. Then day two came and Taylor finished one spot better in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, earning 7th place with a time of 12:22.82.

For the men it was sophomore, David Keach (Neodesha, KS) competing in two events at the National Championships, as he participated in the 10,000-meter run and 5,000-meter run. Keach came away with a 20th place finish in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:52.50, while he finished with a DNF in the 5,000-meter run. The other Scottie men's track and field athlete to compete at the Championships was sophomore, Josh Harden (Coral Springs, FL) who competed in the triple jump, finishing with a leap of 47ft 3.5in, good for an 11th place finish.
