Pawnee City School Board sets Date for End of School Year
03/14/2013

(KTNC) - Pawnee City Schools will end the school year a bit earlier than anticipated, after the School Board set the final day for students and staff.
As Superintendent Stephen Grizzle explains, the district calendar includes a flexible date for the end of the school year, which can be moved depending on the number of days missed during the course of the year.  The end of the school year had originally been set at May 24th for students and May 28th for faculty.  (play audio   :28   “May 24th.”)
The board also approved the calendar for the next school year.  Classes will begin August 14th and the final day was set – tentatively – for May 23, 2014.  Graduation will take place on May 10th.  The calendar also includes two evenings for parent-teacher conferences in the fall.  Those had been eliminated this past year.
The board also approved recommendations of the Pawnee City Public School Foundation, which will be awarding several scholarships to graduating seniors this spring.
The scholarships include up to $14,000 in “Learn to Dream” scholarships in conjunction with Southeast Community College; the $1,000 Hauner Agricultural Scholarship; five new renewable Thiemann Scholarships, 11 existing renewable Thiemann Scholarships, and 19 non-renewable Thiemann Scholarships, all for $1,000 each; and 11 additional $1,000 Pawnee City Public Schools Foundation Scholarships.
