The Tower Choir at Northwest Missouri State University will present a concert with the Park Hill South High School A Cappella and South Boulevard Singers at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts on the Northwest campus.
The Park Hill South High School choral ensembles are under the direction of Elizabeth Brockhoff. She has taught at Park Hill South since 2005 and last year conducted an invitational concert with her choir at the Missouri Music Educators Association state convention.
Formed decades ago by Ralph E. Hartzell and presently under the direction of Professor of Music Dr. Stephen Town, the Northwest Tower Choir has a rich and varied history of outstanding choral performance and musical perfection. Since 1999, the ensemble has performed more than 130 concerts for high schools, colleges, universities, churches and organizations in the 12 states as well as Washington, D.C. The ensemble has performed 11 peer-reviewed or invitational concerts for learned societies or regional and state conventions, meetings and symposia.
The Park Hill South High School choral ensembles will sing three numbers each, and the Tower Choir will sing six, including “Gloria,” a modern, exuberant and highly-rhythmic number by Hyon-won Woo; “Exceeding Glad Shall He Be,” a baroque piece from “Coronation Anthem Nr. 2” by George Frideric Handel; “Hosanna,” an energetic and layered work by Dan Forrest; and “True Light,” a contemporary gospel number by Keith Hampton.
“The public is invited to hear these exceptional ensembles sing a program of diverse and fascinating music that will appeal to everyone,” Town said.
The shared concert, which is free and open to the public, is part of an on-going initiative of Town and Northwest guest choral groups that have featured ensembles in concert with the Tower Choir.
