(KTNC)--The Pawnee City School is taking on a new appearance this summer. New energy efficient windows are being installed in the school, as part of a Qualified Capital Purpose Undertaking Fund project the School Board approved in April.
The project includes other noticeable upgrades inside the school. Superintendent Stephen Grizzle says they are replacing most of the windows at the High School and retrofitting light fixtures at the High School to more energy efficient fixtures. Window air condition units are also being replaced with a central air system that will be more efficient.
Improvements are also being made at the Elementary building, including abating the remaining asbestos in the building and replacing lights.
Several restrooms are also being renovated, including at the Elementary building, the cafeteria restrooms, and the boys' restrooms at the High School.
Grizzle says the windows make the school building look “almost new” and the lighting improvements at the elementary are making classrooms “bright and inviting.” He says they hope the work in complete by the first of August, in time for the beginning of the new school year.
