Falls City Approves Contract with NDOR to Improve Highway 8
07/23/2014

(KLZA)-- For the second time this month the Falls City Council has approved an agreement with the Nebraska Department of Roads to make highway improvements within the corporate limits of Falls City.

Earlier an agreement was approved for Highway 73 improvements expected to be made in 2016.  Monday night an agreement was approved for improvements to Highway 8 from the west, city limits to the intersection with Highway 73.

City administrator Gary Jorn says there are some requirements for the city, and residents along Highway 8 to meet for the improvements to be made. In the future, all entrances from private property to highway right-of-way in the city limits must be approved by the Department of Roads. All advertising and existing encroachments, structures and objects must be removed from right-of-way.

The right-of-way is described from the back of the sidewalks, to the street on either side of the street.

Business owners along Highway 73 can expect a future visit from Department or Roads representatives to go over the rules.

One thing changing immediately along highway 73 is for those vendors that have traditionally sold produce on the east side of the Courthouse along Highway 73. Jorn received an e-mail from the Department of Roads advising anyone selling produce along the state highway right-of-way will need to be moved.

There will be no cost to the city for the highway improvements along highway 8, which is 21st Street in Falls City.
