(KNZA)--A Wetmore man is in the custody of Jackson County authorities, alleged to have been the man responsible for what authorities call a “lewd and lascivious act” involving two children on Saturday afternoon.
Taken into custody in connection with the crime, which authorities say occurred in Hoyt near the Royal Valley High School, is 24-year-old Jason Arthur Seematter.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says Seematter was arrested Wednesday following numerous tips received from the public.
“Our media partners were very helpful in getting the photo of the suspect vehicle out to the public. We also received tips from 6 counties in northeast Kansas.”
The image of the suspect vehicle used in the investigation was captured by a video surveillance system around the time that the alleged crime happened.
Morse says the children, both under the age of 14, were not hurt because they ran away after Seematter allegedly performed the unspecified lewd act.
Five law enforcement officers were dedicated to the case, with the investigation leading to the suspect vehicle in rural Hoyt after a tip was received Wednesday.
Seematter was taken into custody a short time later and is now held in the Jackson County Jail where he faces two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior.
