(KNZA)--A wrong-way crash on U.S. 24 Highway in Jefferson County Wednesday evening sent a Meriden woman to the hospital.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 29-year-old Abbie Palmer was westbound in the eastbound lane, just east of Perry, when the wreck occurred around 7:15. No reason was given why she was traveling the wrong way.
An eastbound pickup truck driven by 59-year-old Lawrence resident Steven Chatman tried to avoid hitting Palmer’s car, but struck the left rear passenger side. A third vehicle, an eastbound car driven by 68-year-old McClouth resident Kay Crossley was unable to stop, and struck Chatman’s vehicle in the rear.
Palmer was transported to Topeka’s Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center with what were described as disabling injuries. Chatman and Crossley were not injured.
