(KLZA)-- The Pawnee City Council received updates on the high coliform readings in the water supply when they met Monday evening.
The water remains safe to drink and all other uses. Work has been done on well number three which was taken off line but the test results still came back higher than acceptable. Lane Western Engineers pulled well three and sent a camera down the well, finding iron bacteria sediment.
The wells will be chlorinated again and more testing will be done. In addition, all 87 fire hydrants in Pawnee City will undergo high velocity flushing to remove any sediment that may have settled.
In other business the Council approved trading in a 2013 Bobcat Skidster for a 2014 model. The out of pocket cost to the City will be $3,225. The machine is being purchased from Hamilton Equipment.
A bid of $14,100 to clean the Pawnee City water tower was approved. Elite National Tank will perform the work. About a year ago the company’s bid for the job was approximately $60,000.
Discussion on sewer rate analysis and rates by high volume users was tabled due to the illness of a Council member who was absent.
