(KAIR)--A police investigation into an alleged case of child abuse has lead to the arrest of an Atchison couple.
Police Lieutenant Tim Stout says the investigation was launched Monday afternoon after police were contacted by the Kansas Department of Children and Families regarding the possible abuse of a ten year old boy at a residence in the 1700 block of Chestnut Street. Stout says it appeared as though the living conditions at the home contributed to the alleged neglect.
The child had an apparent facial injury.
It's alleged the boy's parents, 32-year-old Virginia Paxton, and 44-year-old Christopher Paxton were involved with abuse.
The Paxtons were arrested just after 2:00 Tuesday afternoon and booked into the Atchison County Jail, where they each face one count of abuse of a child.
Stout says the condition of the child is unknown at this time.
