The Richardson County Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately 1 p-m regarding a theft in progress at a rural location near Humboldt.

The property owner reported he had tried to use his vehicle to block three subjects from leaving in a pickup, but they managed to get around him by driving through the grader ditch.  The reporting party maintained contact with the Sheriff’s Office as he followed the fleeing pickup and kept authorities up to date on the location and direction of travel.

The chase ended when the subjects, 24-year-old Jason Brownell,  26-year-old Everett Loper and 50-year-old David McPherson attempted to hide the vehicle among trees near Highway 73 and 703 Road which is just north of the Nebraska – Kansas State line.

Deputies took the three suspects into custody as they were attempting to leave the site on foot.

Brownell, Loper and McPherson were arrested and cited for theft.  Brownell who was driving the unlicensed and uninsured pickup was also cited for third offense driving under suspension.  The vehicle was impounded.
